Tronic Halogen R7s Linear Lamp 500W, 220-240V

Our review

This is a linear halogen bulb in the R7s fitting, rated at 500W and running on 220-240V mains. Tronic positions it for flood lights, security lights and work lights, so it suits anyone replacing a burnt-out lamp in an outdoor flood fixture, a yard or gate security light, or a portable work lamp that takes this base type. Before buying, confirm three things: that your fixture uses the R7s recessed double-ended base, that it is rated for a 500W load, and that the holder and wiring are in good condition, since a lamp of this rating draws a fair amount of current and heat. Halogen lamps of this shape run hot and are sensitive to finger oils on the glass, so handle with a cloth and let the fixture cool before swapping. Compared with LED alternatives, halogen gives instant full brightness and a warm light but uses more power and has a shorter life, so weigh that against how often the light is on. If your fitting is enclosed, check the manufacturer's guidance on lamp wattage. Available on Sokonia.
