Tronic AD 1012 EU to Universal Adapter Plug, 16A 250V

Our review

This is a compact plug adapter from Tronic, model AD 1012, that takes a European-style two-pin plug with 4.8mm pins and presents it to a universal socket. In practice that means you plug your EU device into the adapter, then plug the adapter into a socket that accepts the universal pattern. It is rated for up to 250V and 16A, so it can carry a fairly heavy load rather than just phone chargers. The body is made from fireproof PC with copper contacts, in white and grey. It suits travellers, households with imported EU appliances, or anyone running a device whose original plug does not match the wall outlet. Before buying, check the pin spacing and diameter of your existing plug, confirm the socket you intend to use physically accepts the adapter's pins, and make sure your device's current draw stays within the 16A rating. Compare it with simple pin converters, which are smaller but often limited to lower currents, and with full travel adapters that add USB ports but may not handle 16A. If you mainly need a straightforward, higher-current EU-to-universal conversion, this is the type to look at. Available on Sokonia.
