Tronic AB Male USB 3.1 10Gbps Cable, 5 Metres

Our review

This is a five-metre USB 3.1 cable from Tronic with male A and male B connectors, rated for the 10Gbps SuperSpeed option. That rating matters because USB 3.1 uses more effective data encoding, so it can carry more than twice the effective throughput of earlier SuperSpeed USB while staying backward compatible with standard USB ports and cables. The length is the headline here: five metres is long for a 10Gbps link, so it suits someone connecting a printer, scanner, dock or external drive that sits well away from the computer rather than a desk-side device. Before buying, confirm your device actually has a USB-B port, since many modern peripherals use USB-C or micro-B instead, and check that the port supports 10Gbps if you want the full speed. Compare against shorter 10Gbps cables if your devices sit close together, and against plain USB 3.0 leads if you only need 5Gbps. Available on Sokonia.
