Philips Portable FM/AM Analogue Radio TAR1509/00, AAA Battery Operated
TSh 54,000
Our review
This is a small analogue radio from Philips, built around FM and AM reception and powered by AAA batteries rather than a built-in rechargeable cell. It is aimed at people who want a straightforward set for spoken word and music while moving around, whether that is in the house, in a garden, or somewhere without a reliable phone signal. The controls are kept simple, so tuning does not demand much attention. Because it is analogue, expect to tune by hand and accept some drift between stations; that is normal for this type of receiver. Before buying, think about how you will power it, since AAA batteries are not included as far as the listed facts go, and consider whether you need FM only or AM as well. Compare it with digital radios if you want preset stations and a screen, and with larger portables if sound volume matters more than pocket size. It is available on Sokonia.
