Straight snips are the general-purpose member of the aviation-snip family: they cut forward along a line rather than curving left or right, which makes them the sensible first pair for straight runs through sheet metal, trim, flashing and light ducting. The stated capacity is carbon steel up to 1.2mm and stainless steel up to 0.7mm, so it suits light fabrication, roofing touch-ups, auto body patches and workshop jobs rather than heavy-gauge plate. Before buying, check the thickness of the material you actually cut most often, since stainless at 0.7mm is a modest ceiling and a harder sheet will dull or misalign the blades quickly. Also confirm you want straight cutting only; left- and right-cutting snips handle curves and circles far better, and many buyers end up owning all three.
